Moss Letters & Logos

Moss letters are three-dimensional characters cut from wood and filled with preserved greenery. Put a company name together from them and you have a moss logo: a sign that reads as a plant wall rather than as signage, which is precisely why offices order them for the wall behind reception.

The material is preserved, not living. It needs no water, no light and no maintenance visits, so it can go on a wall in a windowless lobby and still look the same in five years.

Moss Letters, Moss Logos and Moss Signs

Individual moss letters are the simplest case: standard characters from A to Z and digits from 0 to 9, cut to a chosen height, filled, and mounted as separate pieces with spacing you control on site. Words like LOVE, HOME or a family name are ordered this way.

A moss logo is a different job. It starts from your artwork, follows your letterforms rather than ours, and often includes a symbol or mark that has to be cut as a shape rather than assembled from characters. Fine details — thin serifs, small counters inside letters like a and e — need a minimum size before the greenery can physically sit inside them, which is the single most common thing we have to discuss with a client before production.

Moss signs sit between the two: fixed phrases, room names, or lettering combined with a panelled background rather than mounted directly on the wall.

How a Custom Moss Logo Order Works

1. Send the artwork. A vector file is ideal. A clean image works if no vector exists, but it may need redrawing before it can be cut.
2. We check the geometry. Letter heights, stroke widths and the smallest enclosed shapes, against the minimum size the material can fill cleanly.
3. You approve dimensions and finish. Overall width, letter height, species and shade, and whether the wood edge stays visible or is hidden.
4. We cut and fill by hand. Each character is filled individually so the density is even across the whole word.
5. Delivery with a mounting plan. Letters arrive with fixings and a spacing guide, so the person installing them is not measuring from scratch.

Where Moss Letters and Logos Are Installed

• Reception walls — the standard use, usually the company name at eye level behind the desk.
• Meeting rooms and lobbies — room names, or a mark on the wall visible from the corridor.
• Retail and hospitality — shop names, café signage, wall lettering above a counter.
• Trade shows — a stand backdrop that survives packing, transport and reassembly better than printed graphics.
• Studios and clinics — where a printed sign would read as clinical and greenery does not.
• Homes — surnames, a word above a bed, or lettering in a nursery.

Mounting Options

Moss letters are light. Most go up on standard wall plugs, and on plasterboard even a large word rarely needs more than that.

Two mounting approaches are common for moss letters. Flush mounting puts each character directly against the wall, which keeps the piece tidy and reads well up close. Standoff mounting holds the letters a couple of centimetres clear of the surface, so they cast a shadow behind them — the effect that makes a reception wall look considered under downlighting. Decide before ordering, because the fixings differ.

Colour and Brand Matching

Preserved moss comes in a range of dyed shades beyond natural green — deeper forest tones, muted greys, and stronger colours where the brand needs them. What it cannot do is match a Pantone reference precisely, because the base material is organic and each batch carries natural variation.

In practice this is rarely a problem. Most brand guidelines that specify green accept the natural range, and the texture reads as deliberate rather than as an off-match. If exact colour is contractual, ask us for a sample before committing to a full logo.

Lifespan and Care

Indoors, moss letters hold their appearance for 7 to 10 years. There is no watering, feeding or replacement of dried elements, which is the whole reason it suits commercial premises: nobody has to remember it exists.

Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades dyed shades faster than natural ones, and away from constant damp. Dust it once or twice a year with a cool hairdryer on the lowest setting. Never vacuum lettering and never wipe it with a damp cloth — the fill sits in shallow recesses and both will pull it loose.
