A preserved rose is cut at the moment it is fully open but before the petals begin to relax. Timing is the whole craft — cut early and the bloom stays tight and never looks finished; cut late and the petals fall during processing.

It then goes into a glycerin solution that works up through the stem and into every petal, displacing the sap. What comes out is a rose with the same shape, the same softness underfoot of a fingertip, and colour that has been stabilised rather than painted on.

The one thing lost is scent. Preservation removes it entirely, and nothing brings it back. Customers occasionally ask, so it is worth saying plainly: these look exactly like roses and smell like nothing at all.

Keep pieces out of direct sunlight. Roses fade faster than foliage under UV, and a piece bought for its deep red will not stay deep red on a sunny wall. Out of direct light, indoors, expect 7 to 10 years.

Dust rarely and gently, with a cool hairdryer on its lowest setting held well back. Do not touch the petals: skin oils discolour pale roses over repeated contact, and the damage accumulates invisibly until it doesn’t.
