Handcrafted Botanical Sphere with Natural Lichen
The moss ball with reindeer moss (Iceland moss) is a three-dimensional decorative sphere covered in preserved lichen tufts. Each sphere utilizes real Cladonia stellaris, treated through a non-toxic preservation method that replaces organic sap with a mineral and glycerin solution. This preservation retains the branched, tactile texture of natural lichen without requiring soil, sunlight, or irrigation. A rigid inner core maintains dimensional stability across the entire surface.
Natural variation in lichen growth patterns creates subtle textural contrast across every piece. Available in natural Spring Green and Forest tones, alongside dyed accents including Blue and Red, these spheres integrate into residential interiors, corporate reception areas, and commercial displays. Densely packed lichen tufts also provide functional sound-dampening qualities by absorbing high-frequency room reflections.
Technical Specifications and Sizing
Sphere dimensions are calculated across the outer moss canopy. Because natural reindeer moss expands and compresses slightly during assembly, finished outer diameters may vary by up to 0.8 inches (2 cm).

Preservation Care and Indoor Climate Requirements
Preserved lichen is biologically inactive. It does not grow, release allergens, or attract indoor pests. To keep the moss soft and pliable, maintain indoor relative humidity between 40% and 60%. When humidity drops below 40%, the branch tips stiffen naturally, regaining flexibility once ambient moisture returns. Never mist or spray water directly onto the sphere, as liquid degrades the preservation salts and washes out pigments.
Keep the sphere shielded from direct sunlight, heating elements, and forced-air vents. Prolonged UV exposure causes gradual color fading. Optimal performance occurs in standard room temperatures ranging from 59°F to 77°F (15°C to 25°C).
Installation Options and Delivery
The lightweight spherical construction allows flexible interior placement. The sphere rests securely on flat surfaces, including decorative bowls, shallow trays, console tables, and reception desks. For aerial suspended installations, an eyelet screw can be set into the core to support monofilament line or wire suspension.
- Free shipping: Delivered within 10–30 business days.
- Suspension compatible: Core accepts hardware for hanging ceiling displays.
- Tabletop display: Rests independently on wide bowls, pedestals, and shelving.
- Reinforced packaging: Packed in custom boxes to prevent crushing during transport.
